It turns out that the name changing rogue Windows XP Repair, which operates under different alias according to the OS on which it is installed, still threatens innocent users. Although the application uses miscellaneous titles, all of its variations are considered to be parasites without any doubt. To confirm that it is known that the application installs itself automatically and does not ask for your permission at all. For that reason, if you receive any warnings produced by Windows XP Repair, Windows Vista Repair or Win 7 Repair, be sure that any messages which are displayed by these scam applications do not provide any accurate information.

In its attempt to mislead you into thinking your PC is in terrible danger, the virus can block executable files from running. It can also connect to the Internet without permission and even slow down the connection. You will also see numerous annoying pop-up messages and may experience slow computer work. In its attempt to accomplish its malicious mission, the program can even cause serious system crashes.

As you can see, all the scan reports that are provided as well as any alerts shown only false results and try to scare you into purchasing a fake anti-malware application

A scan report of the executable file of Windows XP Repairs shows that this fake antivirus software is recognized by real security programs as a malicious application 30 times out of 42. You can use the following table for a reference on which legitimate programs detect the presence of Windows XP Repairs on the system.

If you are still not sure whether or not the program has penetrated into your PC, you can check the size of the installation file and the MD5 signature of the application. It is known that the executable file of the program is 374784 bytes and its MD5 signature is b0a6ca76908041fb5316efbf19ff8a3f.

The truth is you do not have to purchase this fake application for any reason. On the contrary – you have to trust only legitimate anti-rogueware programs that have been created with the only intention to provide effective and reliable security services.

By default, Windows XP starts a large number of services. Most are used for working well in Windows, but some of them are useless and are there only for slower computer performance. Plus, some of the services expose your computer to attacks, allowing remote users to access your computer.

To access services, go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and run the services, you get a list with all services, with a status and description for each. You can get depressed each service and read the description, all are self-explanatory, you do not need much knowledge to understand the meaning of each, but I’ll give you a list with some services you can disable no problem.

1. Alert
Notifies selected users and computers of administrative alerts. If the service is stopped, programs that use administrative alerts will not receive them. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

I do not think it is necessary for a user’s computer continuously bothering with alerts.

2. Gateway Service Layer
Provides support for 3rd party protocol plug-ins for Internet Connection Sharing and Firewall Internet Connection

If you want to share your internet connections leave, but I do not think you want to share your connection with others, because almost all ISPs do not want their users to share Internet, and companies or big networks which want to share connection use routers which are cheap.

3. Automatic Updates
Enables the download and installation of critical updates for Windows. If the service is disabled, the operating system can be updated manually.

How many times have you found automatic updates necessary? Microsoft software will always have problems when they try to fix something, they are security holes, if you want to be sure, you should use a firewall.

4. Intelligent Transfer Service Background
uses idle network bandwidth to transfer data.

It works well for automatic updates, but are you sure you want your computer to connect to the internet and download stuff that you do not want?

5. Album
Album Viewer allows to store and share information with remote computers. If the service is stopped, Album Viewer will not be able to share information with remote computers. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

This will share your clipboard with other computers on the network, seriously, why would you do that?

6. Computer Browser
Maintains a list of computers on the network and supplies this list to computers designated as browsers. If this service is stopped, this list will not be updated or maintained. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

If you frequently copy files from other computers on your network, do not disable it, otherwise it is a waste of resources.

7. Cryptographic Services
Provides three management services: Catalog Database Service, which confirms the signatures of Windows files; Protected Root Service, which adds and removes Trusted Root Certification Authority certificates from this computer, and Key Service, which register using this computer for certificates. If this service is stopped, these management services will not function properly. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

It is used when you want to pass certificates to the network. If you are not in a large corporate network you do not need that.

8. Distributed Transaction Coordinator
Coordinates transactions that span multiple resource managers, such as databases, message queues, and file systems. If this service is stopped, these transactions will not occur. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

This is only used if you want to access file systems and databases on the network.

9. Error Reporting Service
Error Reporting enables services and applications running in non-standard environments.

Probably you have seen enough times the dialog box with “send error report” on it.

10. Help & Support
Active support and assistance of running on this computer. If this service is stopped, Help and Support Center will be unavailable. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

How many times you got help from their help and service center?

11 Service IMAPI CD-Burning COM
Manages CD recording using Image Mastering Applications Programming Interface (IMAPI). If this service is stopped, this computer will be unable to burn CDs. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

Do not disable this feature if you have a CD burner attached to your computer.

12. Messenger
Transmits net send and Alerter service messages between clients and servers. This service is not related to Windows Messenger. If this service is stopped, Alerter messages will not be passed. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

This has nothing to do with Windows Messenger or other IM client. It is used to send messages trough network.

13. Remote Desktop Sharing NetMeeting
Enables an authorized user to access this computer remotely by using NetMeeting over a corporate intranet. If this service is stopped, remote desktop sharing will be unavailable. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

Do you have other computers on your network or Internet to access the desktop of your computer? if so, do not disable this option, else do it for safety.

14. Remote Desktop Help Session Manager
Manages and controls Remote Assistance. If this service is stopped, Remote Assistance will be unavailable. Before stopping this service, see the Dependencies tab of the Properties dialog box.

Again, if you want to connect to this computer from another location, change your operating system.

15. Remote Registry
Allows remote users to modify registry settings on this computer. If this service is stopped, the registry can be modified only by users on this computer. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

I do not think you want to edit your registry to the other computer.

16. WZC
Provides automatic configuration for 802.11 adapters

If you do not have a wireless connection, disable it. But I tell you my experience, the first thing the administrator of my ISP’s wireless service told me to do was to disable Wireless Zero Configuration in this manner , the connection will work better

Backup Windows XP has five types of backups that define what data is stored as only files that have changed since the last backup.
Some backup types use backup markers, also known as archive attributes, which marks a file as having changed. When a file changes, an attribute is defined on the file which indicates that the file has changed since the last backup. When you save the file, it allows or resets the attribute.

Normal

During a normal backup, all selected files and folders are saved. A normal backup does not rely on markers to determine which files to backup. During a normal backup of existing marks are cleared and each file is marked as having been saved. normal backups to accelerate the restoration process, because the backup files are the most common and you do not need to restore multiple backup jobs.

Copy

During a backup? Place all the selected files and folders are saved. He looks neither for nor authorizes markers. If you do not want to clear markers and affect other backup types, use copy. For example, use a backup copy between a normal and an incremental backup to create a snapshot of data archives network.

Differential

When a differential backup, only selected files and folders that have a marker are backed up. It is not clear markers. Because a differential backup does not clear markers, if you have two differential backups on a file and nothing has changed in the file, the entire file will be saved each time.

Incremental

In an incremental backup, only selected files and folders that have a marker are backed up. It allows markers. Because an incremental backup allows markers, if you did two incremental backups in a row on a file and nothing has changed in the file, the file would not support the second time.

Daily

During a daily backup, all selected files and folders that were changed during the day are saved. He looks neither for nor authorizes markers. If you want to back up all files and folders that change during the day, using a daily backup.

Combining backup types

An effective backup strategy is likely to combine different types of backup. Some backup types require more time to save data, but less time to restore data. Conversely, other types of backups require less time to save data, but over time, restore the data. If you combine the types of backup, markers are essential. Incremental and differential back? Types to verify and count on the markers. Here are some examples of combining different types of backup:

Normal and differential backups. On Monday, a normal backup is performed, and Tuesday through Friday differential backups are performed, differential backups are not good markers, which means that each backup includes all changes since Monday. If data becomes corrupt on Friday, just restore the normal backup from Monday and the differential backup from Thursday This strategy takes more time to go, but less time to restore.

Normal and incremental backups. On Monday, a normal backup is performed, and Tuesday through Friday incremental backups are performed. Incremental backups clear markers, which means that each return? To include only those files changed since the previous backup. If data becomes corrupt on Friday, you must restore back normal? Square, Monday and all incremental backups, from Tuesday to Friday. This strategy takes less time to save, but more time to restore.

Normal and differential backups copy. This strategy is the same as the first example that used normal and incremental backups, except that on Wednesday you make a backup copy. backup copies all selected files and does not clear markers or interrupt the usual schedule backup. Therefore, each differential backup contains all changes since Monday. The type of backup copy made on Wednesday is not part of Friday restore. Copy backups are useful when you need to create a snapshot of your data.
